The Social Robotics Society of Taiwan (SRST) Agrew out of the Social Robots Interdisciplinary Innovation and Research Platform, a project supported by “Academic Research Website Project “of National Science and Technology Council and later sustained by NTU’s Artificial Intelligence and Robotics Center. The platform was convened by Distinguished Professor Hsiu-Ping Yueh (Department of Bio-Industry Communication and Development / Department of Psychology, National Taiwan University) and co-convened by Professor Weijane Lin (Department of Library and Information Science, National Taiwan University), jointly managed by their research teams and graduate students.
The platform aimed to become an important hub for promoting education and academic resources in social robotics. It sought to foster exchanges and sharing between the academic community and the general public, with the broader goal of advancing academic collaboration, interdisciplinary dialogue, and the dissemination of knowledge in the humanities and social sciences. With the completion of its initial mission, the platform successfully brought together scholars and industry experts from diverse fields who share an interest in social robotics. In 2025, these efforts led to the preparation for the establishment of the SRST. On July 27, 2025, the Society held its First General Assembly (Founding Meeting) and the First Joint Board Meeting, officially launching the organization. Professor Hsiu-Ping Yueh was elected as the SRST’s first President. The inaugural board comprised experts from a wide range of disciplines, including Library and Information Science, Information Management and Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Social Work, with members representing multiple institutions such as National Taiwan University, Fu Jen University, National Taipei University of Education, and National Kaohsiung University of Science and Technology.
Following its establishment, SRST has taken on an active role in advancing academic research, technological development, and educational outreach in the field of social robotics, while promoting interdisciplinary and international exchange. SRST is committed to fostering collaboration with academic organizations and industry both in Taiwan and abroad, organizing conferences, competitions, and training workshops. Through these efforts, the Society seeks to establish Social Robotics as a recognized academic discipline and to explore its innovative applications in education, healthcare, culture, and public services, ultimately contributing to a future of harmonious human–robot coexistence.
